COACHES PROFILE: Kirk Heidelberg
Heidelberg handles offensive coordinator duties for USA Football’s 2010 Junior National Team while also coaching the offensive line. He comes from Rockford (Ill.) Christian High School where he serves as the Royal Lions’ head football coach as well as the school’s athletic director. Following a series of mediocre seasons for the football team, the school named Heidelberg as its head coach and he immediately led the program a 7-3 record in 2006. He has yet to have a losing season with Rockford Christian and led his 2009 team to a conference championship with an 8-2 record. Heidelberg’s experience also includes an extensive list of assistant coaching positions at the college level. He also lived in Germany for 10 years and worked in the German Football League as a head coach and offensive coordinator for the Cologne Crocodiles and Hamburg Blue Devils. He was named German Football Coach of the Year in 2000 and 2003 while leading his teams to German Bowl victories those two years with Cologne and Hamburg, respectively. Heidelberg speaks German, met and married his wife in Germany, and also worked with Team USA’s Head Coach Chris Merritt while there.
